PostSubject: Adding Effects to Existing Footage   Mon 05 Mar 2007, 1:59 am

I have old movies that I have edited in Windows Movie Maker, and wondered if there was a way to superimpose the special effects created on this site. So without pre-edit creation of green screen or black screen backgrounds; can the explosion or fire effect be superimposed over the clip?

Thanks!!

Yes it should work.... What file type are your old movies???

Oh, and since you are doing this is movie maker you will want to use the black background with the comp a add B transition...

Go to this site

http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=74030

now scroll down to the C section until you see Comp A add B then
Copy and paste into Notepad or any text editor
Save in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\.xml
If the folder AddOnTFX doesn't exist make one with that name..
Restart Movie Maker and look in transitions.....

Thanks!

Seems I may have missed a step... I followed the prescribed instructions, restarted movie maker (even rebooted), but I see nothing under Transitions to indicate the new feature. One thing I did not see in the steps was what to name the notepad file as; so I named it 'comp a add b b add a.txt' as per the code name. Was that incorrect?

Also, allow me to detail further what type of effect(s) I am hoping to generate: back in 1975 I made a Frankenstein movie and in it is the obligatory lab scene complete with flashing lights and lab-type noises. I would love to superimpose your great looking Energy-Camera-hit_red.avi onto the existing scene. But the option to drop a clip on to a clip or place it in the title overlay track does not appear to be available.

So please let me know what I may have missed!

Thanks again!

Ok sorry I should have said that you save the file in notepad as 'comp a add b b add a.xml' so you did it right but you just have to change the .txt or XML.... that is the reason It didn't show up.... so save it has this exact name

'comp a add b b add a.xml'

that should work....

Yes this will do what you are looking for.... Smile
